Green Lantern animated film sees streaming resurgence on HBO Max

The animated film ‘Green Lantern: Beware My Power’, starring Aldis Hodge as John Stewart, has seen a resurgence on HBO Max. As of late August 2026, the film reached the sixth spot on the platform’s movie charts, following the success of the DCU series ‘Lanterns’.

The animated feature, directed by Jeff Wamester, features a voice cast including Jimmi Simpson and Ike Amadi. While the series ‘Lanterns’ has received critical acclaim, the animated film holds a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In the context of the franchise's history, previous adaptations have seen varying levels of success, including the 2011 live-action film starring Ryan Reynolds. Additionally, a previously unproduced comedy version of the character, which would have starred Jack Black and was written by Robert Smigel, was developed during the 2000s but never reached production.
