Green Liberal Party faces challenges in Zurich politics

The Green Liberal Party (GLP) in Zurich is facing internal and political scrutiny following recent local election results and controversial council decisions. Sven Sobernheim, a GLP member, addressed the party's recent loss of seats in the City Council, noting they dropped from 17 to 15 seats.

Sobernheim criticized the council's recent approval of the Seetunnel project, describing it as an unnecessary and expensive undertaking. He noted that the GLP had attempted to call for a study to justify the project's ecological and financial impact, but the motion was narrowly defeated in a 59 to 58 vote.

Regarding election performance, Sobernheim defended the party's decision not to form electoral alliances, arguing that maintaining an independent role in the council is more valuable than securing an executive seat through coalitions. He also commented on the narrow re-election of City Councilor Andreas Hauri, attributing the difficulty to a lack of campaign visibility rather than individual performance.
