Green Party Council member Eleanora Folan sparks controversy over Labour and Iran comments

Eleanora Folan, a newly elected member of the Green Party Council representing the Eastern Region, has drawn criticism following a series of social media posts. Folan, who describes herself as a Communist and an ‘anti-Zionist trans woman’, used her X account, ‘Stats for Lefties’, to claim that the UK Labour Party is ‘infinitely more evil’ than the Iranian regime.

In her posts, Folan alleged that Labour has been responsible for far more deaths and suffering in the past 20 years than the Iranian government has in a century, specifically citing the leadership of Tony Blair and Keir Starmer. She also expressed support for the abolition of Israel and called for Palestine to be ‘freed from the bloodthirsty Zionist entity’. Additionally, she urged political leftists to oppose British sanctions against Tehran.

A spokesperson for the Labour Party described the situation as ‘outrageous’, questioning why Folan remains in the party and criticizing her position on the Green Party’s governing council.
