Green Party criticizes planned German integration course budget cuts

The Green Party has strongly criticized planned reductions in federal funding for integration courses in Germany. Filiz Polat, the parliamentary managing director for the Greens, called on the federal government to reverse the decision, arguing that language acquisition is a fundamental requirement for employment.

According to data from the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the budget for these courses is projected to drop to 590 million euros in 2027, a significant decrease from the nearly 1 billion euros allocated for 2026. This reduction is expected to limit the number of funded participants to 150,000, a sharp decline from the more than 400,000 participants recorded in 2025.

The Greens characterized the budget tightening as a systematic reversal of integration policy progress. The Ministry of the Interior's budget plan is scheduled for debate in the Bundestag this Thursday.
