Green Party demands drone summit at German Chancellery

The Green Party parliamentary group in Germany is calling for a drone summit to be held at the Chancellery. This demand follows a prevented attack involving an explosive drone at Leipzig Airport, which the party argues demonstrates that drones must be addressed as a threat to domestic security rather than just a military concern.

The Greens have criticized Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU), accusing him of engaging in symbolic politics instead of closing security gaps. The party's proposal includes making the Federal Police responsible for drone surveillance and defense, creating a real-time situational map of lower airspace, and prioritizing technical upgrades for airports, Bundeswehr facilities, and critical infrastructure.

Additionally, the Greens are calling for the full operational readiness of the drone defense center in Berlin and support for federal states to build their own capabilities. The party characterized recent drone flights and hybrid attacks from Russia as a dangerous strategy intended to test the resilience of Germany's security architecture.
