Sagal Abdi-Wali wins Holborn and St Pancras by-election

Sagal Abdi-Wali of the Labour Party has won the Holborn and St Pancras by-election, taking the seat previously held by Keir Starmer. Abdi-Wali, who grew up in the area after fleeing Somalia as a child, secured 12,292 votes (45.2 percent) to defeat Green Party leader Zack Polanski, who received 8,928 votes (32.8 percent).

The election result follows controversy surrounding the Green Party and its stance on Zionism. Church of England InterFaith Advisors expressed concern regarding antizionist rhetoric and a Green Party vote, stating it has deepened a sense of vulnerability within Jewish communities. Polanski faces pressure following both the electoral defeat and the party’s political positions.
