Green Party leaders face political shifts and policy scrutiny

Green Party leader Zack Polanski has indicated he will resign from his position in the London Assembly if elected as a Member of Parliament in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election. The by-election follows the resignation of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Because Polanski serves as a London-wide assembly member rather than representing a specific constituency, his departure would not trigger a local assembly by-election.

Separately, Mothin Ali, the co-deputy leader of the Green Party in England and Wales, is facing scrutiny regarding the party’s ‘Abolish landlords’ policy. While the party passed a motion to seek the ‘effective abolition of private landlordism’ through regulation and taxation, reports indicate that Ali owns two rental properties in Leeds through a private limited company. A Green Party spokesperson stated that Ali’s property ownership was intended to serve the interests of vulnerable family members for whom he has caring responsibilities.
