Green Party of England and Wales defines Zionism as racism

The Green Party of England and Wales has formally adopted a policy defining Zionism as a form of racism. The motion, passed by a vote of 1,022 to 813 at the party's conference in Brighton, also calls for the establishment of a single democratic state throughout historic Palestine and reaffirms support for Palestinian liberation.

The decision has drawn intense international condemnation. Israel's Foreign Ministry described the motion as a “clear antisemitic text” and a “stain on the history of the United Kingdom,” accusing the party of legitimizing terrorism. In response, Israel has barred the Green Party leader, Zack Polanski, from entering the country.

Internally, the move has caused significant friction. Four of the party's five Members of Parliament expressed opposition to the resolution. Additionally, Sandy Ruthven, chair of Amnesty International UK’s charitable trust, resigned from the party, citing a failure to confront prejudice within the political camp. The European Green Party has also distanced itself from the UK branch's position.
