Green Party opposes Memmingen Airport expansion
The Green Party chapter in Unterallgäu has expressed opposition to further capacity expansion at Memmingen Airport. While acknowledging the airport's economic importance for regional tourism and employment, the party warns against increasing flight capacity through additional gates and aircraft parking spaces.
Concerns cited include increased noise pollution, traffic congestion, air pollutants, and land consumption. The party specifically noted potential impacts on the communities of Memmingerberg, Ungerhausen, Westerheim, Trunkelsberg, and the city of Memmingen. They also called for transparent investigations into potential PFAS contamination on the former military airfield site.
Instead of expanding airport infrastructure or building new road connections like an additional junction on the A96, the Greens advocate for improving existing transport links and expanding public transit, such as more reliable bus services.
