Green Party of England and Wales adopts policy defining Zionism as racism

The Green Party of England and Wales has officially adopted a policy classifying Zionism as a form of racism. The decision was reached during the party's annual conference in Brighton, where members voted 1,022 to 813 in favor of the motion.

The new policy defines Zionism as an ethnonationalist political project and supports the establishment of a single democratic Palestinian state throughout historic Palestine, with Jerusalem as its capital. Supporters of the motion argue it targets a political ideology rather than religious or ethnic identity, while opponents, including several Green MPs, warned the move is divisive.

The decision has drawn sharp condemnation from the Israeli government and British Jewish organizations. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated the policy goes 'far beyond the boundaries of legitimate political debate' and accused the party of legitimizing terrorism. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar has reportedly banned Green Party leader Zack Polanski from entering Israel.

Groups such as the Movement for Progressive Judaism have accused the party of making antisemitism its official policy. Meanwhile, party leadership has maintained that the motion does not impact disciplinary procedures for members based on their personal beliefs.
