Green Party rejects request to postpone conference ahead of by-election
The Green Party's ruling executive committee has rejected a request from Zack Polanski to postpone the party's annual conference. Polanski sought the delay to focus resources on the upcoming Holborn and St Pancras by-election, which is scheduled for October 8.
Party officials noted that staff members expressed concerns regarding the dilution of funds and resources if the conference and the by-election campaign were held so close together. The conference is set to begin in Brighton on October 2, with approximately 3,000 attendees expected, marking what is anticipated to be the party's largest gathering to date.
The decision comes amid internal discussions regarding a contentious policy motion at the conference concerning Zionism. Additionally, Polanski has faced scrutiny over campaign tactics, including the release of a campaign video in Urdu.
