Green Planet: National Aquarium planned for Brno, Czechia

A major new aquarium project, Green Planet: National Aquarium, is planned for the Brno Exhibition Centre in Czechia. Following an agreement with Veletrhy Brno, the facility is expected to become one of the largest aquarium complexes in Europe.

The project, estimated to cost approximately CZK 700 million, will occupy Pavilion C and surrounding outdoor areas. The facility is designed to hold over four million liters of water across roughly 100 tanks and will house approximately 400,000 animals representing about 500 species. A central attraction will be a 2.5 million-liter ocean tank featuring a 55-meter underwater tunnel.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the aquarium expected to open to the public in the second half of 2028. Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková noted that the site could attract around 500,000 visitors in its first year. The development will also focus on efficient water management through advanced recirculation and treatment systems.
