Greenbrier Casino faces temporary closure amid $500 million deal
The Greenbrier Casino Club faces a potential temporary closure as the Justice family and New York-based Kennedy Lewis Investment Management (KLIM) work to finalize a $500 million financing agreement. The deal is intended to satisfy debts owed to Texas-based TRT Holdings and fund capital improvements at the historic Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs.
To finalize the transaction, the Justice family must create a new holding company and transfer the casino license, a process currently awaiting approval from the West Virginia Lottery Commission. Attorneys for the resort informed a federal judge that the casino may need to cease operations if the regulatory approval is not secured in time to meet the transaction deadline.
Legal representatives for The Greenbrier have requested flexibility from the West Virginia Lottery Commission, proposing a transition period that would allow the casino to remain open while the license transfer is pending. They have also requested an emergency meeting to expedite the approval process to avoid the operational impact of a closure.
