Greenco expands Armenian fruit production using Italian technology
Greenco LLC has expanded its fruit production in Armenia from a 30-hectare startup in 2017 to 250 hectares of intensive orchards. The company operates across two distinct geographic sites: the Ararat region in the south, characterized by a hot and dry climate suitable for stone fruits, and the Kotayk region, located at 1,800 meters above sea level with higher rainfall, which is used for apples and pears.
To manage these operations, Greenco utilizes Italian technology and expertise. The company collaborates with Italian partners for soil and climate analysis, virus-free cuttings, and weather protection. Climate control and automatic drip irrigation are managed remotely via smartphone through the Italian company Irritec.
The company’s diversified production includes 155 hectares of apples, 30 hectares of cherries, 30 hectares of apricots, 20 hectares of nectarines, 10 hectares of pears, and 5 hectares of grapes. This variety serves to mitigate market dependency on a single crop and to ensure a continuous harvest cycle from mid-May to October, aiding in labor management.
