Greene County Sheriff Leads Swift Water Rescue of Family in Coxsackie, New York

Heavy rainstorms battered the Hudson Valley and upstate New York this week, setting new state rainfall records and turning quiet streams into fast‑moving floodwaters. In Greene County, the rising water forced emergency crews to conduct a swift‑water rescue in the Village of Coxsackie.

Greene County Sheriff Pete Kusminsky’s Dive/Swift Water Rescue Team, together with the Coxsackie Fire Department, used an inflatable rescue sled to reach a home surrounded by floodwater and safely extract a woman, her granddaughter, their dog and a cat. All four occupants were rescued without injury.

The storm also caused widespread damage across the region, washing away historic structures such as a 300‑year‑old mill and prompting multiple emergency calls. State officials continue to urge residents to avoid floodwaters and stay alert as more rain remains possible.
