GREEN×EXPO 2027 announces facility names and promotional initiatives

The GREEN×EXPO Association has announced the official names for three major facilities at the 2027 International Horticultural Exposition. The Theme Pavilion will be named ‘Nekko’, inspired by plant roots and the interconnectedness of life. The Horticultural Pavilion, ‘Iroha-niwa’, will showcase traditional Japanese gardening culture dating back to the Edo period. The indoor exhibition facility will be called ‘Hanameguri’, representing the cycle of flowers and human interaction.

To build momentum leading up to the March 19, 2027 opening, the association has designated the 19th of every month as ‘Tunku Tunku Day’.

In a related development, an origami version of the exposition’s mascot, ‘Tunku Tunku’, has gained significant popularity. Created by Yuki Amakawa, a young woman from Osaka who found inspiration through the Osaka-Kansai Expo, the origami design has been viewed over 100,000 times on social media. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has incorporated her origami method into promotional materials and event flyers to help promote the upcoming horticultural event.
