Greenland expeditions feature Ilulissat Icefjord and local cuisine

HX Expeditions offers cruises along the west coast of Greenland, traveling from the capital of Nuuk toward the town of Ilulissat. The region is characterized by its vast mountains and the Ilulissat Icefjord, which accounts for three percent of the world’s icebergs.

Travelers can engage in local culinary experiences, such as the ‘Tide to Table’ excursion led by chef Inunnguaq Hegelund. These experiences highlight traditional Greenlandic cuisine, including dishes made from dried fish, reindeer, and halibut. The excursions also provide insight into local customs, such as ‘kaffemik’, which are social gatherings held in private homes to celebrate special occasions.

Near the Ilulissat Icefjord Centre, the Jakobshavn Glacier—a 65km-long glacier fed by the Greenland ice sheet—continuously calves icebergs into the water.
