Greenland mining projects advance with new approvals and field programs
Critical Metals Corp. has received Greenland government approval for the mining and closure plans of its Tanbreez rare earths project in southern Greenland. The project is considered one of the largest undeveloped heavy rare earth deposits outside of China, with a preliminary economic assessment estimating an after-tax net present value of $2.1 billion.
The approval establishes a framework for the development and eventual rehabilitation of the site through 2050. While this is a major milestone, the company still requires specific approvals for environmental management, marine transport, and mineral exports before construction can begin.
Separately, Greenland Mines Ltd has completed its 2026 field program at the Skaergaard Project in southeast Greenland. The multidisciplinary campaign included diamond drilling and geotechnical studies aimed at advancing the project toward metallurgical flowsheet development and resource evaluation. The company is currently evaluating precious metals alongside potential vanadium, iron, and gallium value streams.
