Greenland Prime Minister says Trump dropped annexation plans, US pressure persists

At the Aix‑en‑Provence Economic Forum, Greenland Prime Minister Jens‑Frederik Nielsen announced that former U.S. President Donald Trump has abandoned any intention to annex Greenland. Nielsen said Greenland has faced "unacceptable" pressure for two years, and although a U.S. special envoy confirmed Trump’s change of stance, the pressure remains.

Nielsen emphasized Greenland’s right to self‑determination, its desire to stay aligned with the European Union, Denmark, NATO and to deepen ties with Canada, while reducing reliance on China for mining. He noted support from France and the EU, and declared that Greenland "is not for sale". French Foreign Minister Jean‑Noël Barrot praised Nielsen’s stance, saying the Greenlandic people have chosen Europe and NATO over U.S. imperial pressure.
