Greenland warns against territorial interference in ongoing US dialogue
Greenland's Foreign Minister, Múte Bourup Egede, addressed the European Parliament, warning that the era of powers simply ‘taking a country’ has ended. He emphasized that any interference in Greenland's affairs is an interference with the entire European Union.
Egede confirmed that high-level officials from Greenland and Denmark are engaged in ongoing dialogue with the United States to resolve territorial tensions and sovereignty concerns. He noted that the political uncertainty surrounding Greenland's future is having a negative impact on the mental health of its population.
Regarding economic cooperation, Egede suggested that Greenland could help secure the European Union's supply chain for critical raw materials, which would in turn help diversify the island's economy. He also dismissed the possibility of Greenland rejoining the EU, citing the excessive administrative burden it would place on the island's small government.
