Greenpeace activists protest at Landbrug & Fødevarer headquarters
Greenpeace activists conducted a protest at the Axelborg building in Copenhagen, which serves as the headquarters for the agricultural interest organization Landbrug & Fødevarer. Ten activists participated in the action, with several climbing onto the roof to hoist a large red banner.
The banner and a large message placed on the building's facade read, ‘HER STARTER DE DØDE FJORDE’ (Here start the dead fjords). Greenpeace claims that Landbrug & Fødevarer is primarily responsible for the death of Danish fjords, alleging the organization has spent decades misleading authorities, researchers, and politicians to prevent action against nitrogen pollution from agriculture.
The protest coincides with political debates regarding new fertilization laws in the Danish Parliament, which aim to regulate nitrogen emissions affecting coastal waters. Activist Ronni Christiansen stated that the action highlights the link between agricultural lobbying and the severe oxygen depletion causing fish deaths and algae growth in Danish waters.
