Greenpeace targets President Karol Nawrocki in wind energy protest

Greenpeace activists have launched a nighttime poster campaign in Warsaw and Poznań targeting Polish President Karol Nawrocki. The campaign uses caricatures and the slogan “Don’t be like Karol” to protest his decision one year ago to veto the wind energy law.

Greenpeace claims that the President’s veto, which maintained a 700-meter minimum distance between wind turbines and residential buildings, results in an annual cost of 1,500 PLN for the average Polish family. The organization describes this figure as the calculated cost of delaying the energy transition due to higher electricity bills.

The veto occurred on August 21, 2025, when President Nawrocki reviewed 22 bills, signing 21 and vetoing the wind energy legislation. While supporters of the law sought to reduce the minimum distance to 500 meters to facilitate investment, the President had previously proposed a separate project regarding the freezing of electricity prices.
