Greens Japan to host event on sustainable offshore wind power
Greens Japan has announced an online event scheduled for September 19, 2026, titled “Is it possible to have offshore wind power that does not destroy the ecosystem?”. The discussion focuses on the necessity of 100% renewable energy to combat the climate crisis and the role of offshore wind power in achieving this goal.
The event addresses concerns regarding current projects in Japan, such as the construction of 15MW turbines just 2km offshore, which may cause significant noise pollution from pile driving and negatively impact marine life, including Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins. The session will feature Shinichi Kusajima, a Tsuruoka City Council member, who will share findings from field research in Taiwan to explore sustainable solutions that align with “nature positive” principles.
