Greensteel Australia to restore Newcastle industrial heritage site
Greensteel Australia plans to restore the former Tubemakers administration building in Mayfield, Newcastle, as part of a larger project to reintroduce steel production to the region. The historic inter-war era building, located on Industrial Drive, will undergo interior upgrades to serve as a modern workspace while preserving its historical integrity.
The company aims to have an electric arc steel mill operational on the 70,000-square-metre site by the first quarter of 2028. Once functional, the mill is expected to produce up to 600,000 tonnes of finished steel annually.
