Energy companies expand battery storage projects in Italy and Poland
Energy companies are expanding battery energy storage system (BESS) infrastructure across Europe. In Italy, Metlen and Dolomiti Energia have inaugurated the Erchie BESS in Puglia. The facility provides 25 MW of power and 75 MWh of storage capacity, serving as a critical tool for grid flexibility and supporting renewable energy integration through a Capacity Market contract with Terna.
In Poland, significant developments are underway. Greenvolt Power has commenced construction on the Siedlce BESS project, which features 600 MW of power and 2.4 GWh of capacity. Once operational by late 2027, it is expected to be one of the largest installations in Europe. Additionally, ML System+ has signed contracts worth 17.6 million PLN to build two 5 MW energy storage facilities in Warzyce and Niegłowice, incorporating their NexuView SCADA management system.
