Greenvolt launches Hungary's largest battery storage system

Greenvolt Power has commissioned the biggest battery energy storage system (BESS) in Hungary, a 99.8 MW installation with 288.6 MWh capacity located in Buj, north‑east of the country. The fully operational plant is integrated with the national grid and provides frequency and voltage regulation services, enhancing grid flexibility and enabling greater integration of wind and solar power.

The project exemplifies the rapid growth of battery storage across Europe. Greenvolt Group CEO João Manso Neto highlighted that flexibility is essential for the energy transition, while Greenvolt International Power CEO Spyridon Martinis noted Hungary’s dynamic market in Central and Eastern Europe. The system is part of Greenvolt’s 12.8 GW portfolio of renewable and storage assets, of which 5 GW are dedicated to battery projects.
