Greetsiel hosts Low German language events for September celebrations
September is designated as ‘Plattdüütskmaant’ (Low German Month) in East Frisia, a period dedicated to promoting the Low German language through various projects and events. The initiative aims to improve the prestige of the language and encourage its use in daily life.
As part of the 2026 celebrations, Krummhörn-Greetsiel Tourismus GmbH will host a specific event titled ‘In’t Hörn bi’t Füür’ on September 2 at the Hotel Hohes Haus in Greetsiel. The program features a traditional East Frisian tea ceremony and storytelling in Low German. A character named Geeske will share anecdotes and songs, providing an immersive cultural experience designed to be accessible even to those with limited proficiency in the language.
