Greg Ballard files lawsuit against Indiana Election Commission
Lincoln Party Secretary of State candidate Greg Ballard has filed a lawsuit in Marion Superior Court seeking to compel the Indiana Election Commission to act on pending campaign finance complaints. Ballard, the former mayor of Indianapolis, is representing himself in the suit against Commission Chair Beth Boyce and members Suzannah Wilson Overholt, Karen Celestino-Horseman, and John Westercamp.
The motion for a preliminary injunction requests that the court order the commission to hold a public meeting by October 26 to decide if there is substantial reason to believe violations occurred. Two of the four complaints involve the campaign of Republican candidate Max Engling.
Ballard, running as an independent-aligned candidate, has expressed concerns regarding hyperpartisanship and the lack of competitive elections in Indiana. He argues that the current political divide puts the state's future at risk and seeks to provide voters with more choices beyond the traditional two-party system.
