Greg Dortch joins Buffalo Bills practice squad after Lions release
The Buffalo Bills have added wide receiver and return specialist Greg Dortch to their practice squad. Dortch, a Rochester native, joins the team after being unexpectedly released by the Detroit Lions during the NFL's final roster cuts.
Dortch had previously developed a rapport with Detroit's offensive coordinator, Drew Petzing, but the Lions opted to carry only four wide receivers on their final 53-man roster. Dortch expressed surprise at the release, stating, “It kind of caught me off guard. I didn’t think I was going to be put in that position.”
For the Bills, Dortch provides a potential solution for a special teams unit that has struggled with punt returns. Last season with the Arizona Cardinals, he averaged 11.6 yards on 16 punt returns. The move also reunites Dortch with Bills coaching staff members who previously worked with him in Arizona.
