Greg Maguire inducted into Australia’s Accommodation Hall of Fame
Greg Maguire, 72, the owner of Powerhouse Hotel Tamworth, has been inducted into the Accommodation Australia Hall of Fame. The honour recognises his 46‑year career in the hotel sector and his role in establishing Tamworth’s first five‑star hotel.
Maguire attributes his work ethic to a modest upbringing in a housing commission home in Armidale, leaving school at 16 and working night shifts in the off‑al room at Guyra abattoirs. He later saved enough to secure a bank loan and built a hotel empire that spans multiple industries, often performing hands‑on tasks such as cleaning, gardening and serving guests himself.
