Greg Papa dismissed from KNBR amid ongoing health battle

Longtime Bay Area sports broadcaster Greg Papa, the play‑by‑play voice of the San Francisco 49ers, was let go by radio station KNBR along with his midday co‑host Greg Silver. The termination came weeks after Papa completed a bone‑marrow transplant and recovered from collapsed lungs caused by leukemia treatment, and despite his expressed desire to continue the "Papa & Silver" show from a home studio.

KNBR announced a reshuffle of its midday lineup, bringing back veteran host John Lund to lead a new program, "Fair and Biased with John Lund," from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Papa had signed a multiyear deal in April to remain the 49ers' announcer, but the station cited the ongoing health challenges as a factor in the decision.

The move has drawn attention in the Bay Area sports community, where Papa is a well‑known figure, and highlights the impact of his serious health issues on his broadcasting career.
