Greg Papa returns to KNBR in part-time role

Sports broadcaster Greg Papa is returning to KNBR in a part-time capacity following his layoff last month. Papa, a prominent figure in Bay Area sports media, was previously let go while recovering from a battle with leukemia and subsequent health complications, including a collapsed lung.

Under his new arrangement, Papa will co-host a daily one-hour program titled ‘Lunch with Papa’ from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. alongside former co-host John Lund. Additionally, during the football season, he will provide twice-weekly ‘Niners Updates’ during the station’s morning and afternoon drive shows.

Larry Blumhagen, regional vice president and market manager for Cumulus Media, described Papa as a ‘Bay Area icon in sports broadcasting’ whose voice is synonymous with the market, particularly regarding the San Francisco 49ers.
