Greg Papa to return to 49ers coverage with NBC Sports Bay Area

Broadcaster Greg Papa is set for an expanded role with NBC Sports Bay Area during the upcoming San Francisco 49ers season. This marks an earlier-than-expected return to the airwaves following a severe health battle.

Papa has been recovering from leukemia and complications following a bone marrow transplant in February. These complications included collapsed lungs that required him to be on a ventilator for nearly a week. Despite these challenges, Papa will now appear on the network’s pregame and postgame shows, in addition to his existing work on the ‘49ers Talk’ podcast and the streaming program ‘49ers Now’.

The return follows a period of professional uncertainty after KNBR opted against reinstating Papa for his daily radio show, ‘Papa & Silver’, during his recovery. Papa expressed gratitude toward the NBC team for their support during his illness.
