Greg Rousseau named AFC Defensive Player of the Month
Buffalo Bills pass rusher Greg Rousseau has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month following a dominant start to the NFL season. Through the first three games, Rousseau has recorded six sacks, three forced fumbles, 15 tackles, and eight tackles for loss.
Rousseau, who currently leads the NFL in sacks, attributed his breakout performance to a shift in defensive scheme under coordinator Jim Leonhard. The transition from a traditional defensive end to a pass-rushing outside linebacker has allowed him to better utilize his length and angles.
He also credited the interior defensive line, specifically mentioning Deone Walker, Ed Oliver, and Dewayne Carter, for creating pressure that facilitates his success on the edge. Rousseau is currently in the first year of a four-year, $80 million contract extension.
