Greggs reports 7.2% sales rise and 20% profit jump with new stores

Greggs announced that total sales for the 26 weeks to 27 June 2026 reached £1.1 billion, a 7.2 % year‑on‑year increase. Pre‑tax profit rose to £76 million, roughly 20 % higher than the same period a year earlier. Like‑for‑like sales grew 2.1 % at company‑run shops and 1.3 % at franchised outlets.

The bakery opened 34 net new shops in the first half, taking its UK estate to 2,773 locations. It aims to open 100‑110 net new shops in 2026, targeting about 3,500 outlets overall. Menu innovations – iced matcha lattes, an expanded high‑protein salad range, a chicken roll, and a ‘bake‑at‑home’ frozen range sold through Tesco and Iceland – were credited with attracting health‑conscious customers during summer heatwaves. The company said cost inflation is expected to fall to around 2 % for the year and that it will trial ten self‑service “Greggs Express” convenience formats later in 2026.
