Gregor Gysi criticizes Sahra Wagenknecht and BSW

During an appearance on the talk show ‘Markus Lanz’, politician Gregor Gysi criticized Sahra Wagenknecht and her party, the BSW, accusing them of “blanker Opportunismus” (sheer opportunism).

Gysi expressed concern regarding a perceived political shift and an apparent rapprochement between the BSW and the AfD. He argued that the BSW is pursuing a strategy to become a significant political power factor in Germany at any cost, suggesting that avoiding the AfD risks voter indifference.

Gysi warned that this alignment is “kurz vor der direkten Unterstützung” (close to direct support) and characterized the situation as a threat to democracy. He stated that protecting the rule of law requires defeating the AfD through substantive arguments rather than mere insults.
