GEN-I Sonce CEO arrested in Romanian bribery investigation

Romanian anti-corruption authorities have arrested Gregor Hudohmet, CEO of GEN-I Sonce, and Cristian Theodor Dragomir, an executive at Waldevar Energy, in connection with a bribery investigation. The case involves a project to construct a 55 MW/220 MWh battery energy storage system in Gheorgheni, Romania.

Prosecutors allege that Hudohmet requested a bribe of 450,000 euros plus VAT, representing approximately 2% of the contract value signed in July 2026. Dragomir is accused of complicity by allegedly exerting repeated pressure on a company administrator to facilitate the payment through a sham referral contract.

The Bucharest Tribunal has ordered 30-day preventive detention for both suspects. In response, the GEN-I Group held an extraordinary board meeting, appointed interim directors for GEN-I Sonce, and ordered an audit of the project. The group stated it has zero tolerance for corruption and is considering freezing the project pending the results of the investigation. Waldevar Energy has distanced itself from the allegations, stating the company did not participate in the purported act.
