Gregory Coleman faces calls to resign amid Liberia cocaine probe

Pressure is mounting on Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to remove Gregory O. W. Coleman as Inspector General of the Liberia National Police. The calls for Coleman’s resignation follow a massive cocaine investigation that has placed the nation’s security institutions under intense scrutiny.

Authorities recently reported a major seizure in Duazon involving nearly four tons of cocaine, valued at approximately US$317 million, alongside a 237-kilogram seizure at Roberts International Airport. The investigation has become complicated by allegations that serving or former security officials are themselves subjects of the probe. President Boakai has already ordered the dismissal, suspension, or investigation of several personnel connected to the controversy, including national security and airport officials.

Human rights lawyer and former presidential candidate Cllr. Tiawan Gongloe has renewed calls for Coleman to step down, citing concerns over the government’s handling of the drug-trafficking investigation and questioning why certain individuals allegedly connected to the trade have not been arrested. These claims remain allegations and have not been established in court.
