Gregory Lynn denied bail in alleged murder of Carol Clay

Gregory Lynn, 60, has been denied bail for a second time by the Supreme Court in connection with the alleged murder of 73-year-old camper Carol Clay. Chief Justice Richard Niall rejected Lynn’s claims that he fears for his safety while in custody.

Lynn, a former pilot, maintains his innocence regarding the March 2020 death of Clay in Victoria’s Wonnangatta Valley. During his hearing, Lynn testified that he has faced physical attacks and verbal abuse from other inmates, including being spat on and having a bottle of faeces thrown at him. He described his prison conditions as “draconian” and noted he has spent time in solitary confinement due to tensions with other prisoners.

Crown prosecutor Mark Gibson, KC, opposed the release, suggesting that Lynn’s isolation in custody appeared to be a personal choice. Lynn had requested bail to live with his eldest son, Geordie Lynn. He is expected to face trial next year.
