Greiz fire brigade marks 150‑year anniversary with village‑wide celebration
The fire brigade of the 200‑resident village of Nitschreuth in the Greiz district celebrated its 150th anniversary over the weekend of 1‑2 August. The festivities featured a parade of historic and modern fire‑fighting equipment, a demonstration by the youth fire brigade, and a gathering of neighbouring fire units. The event was supported by Sparkasse Gera‑Greiz, which contributed €1,850, and attended by Greiz Landrat Ulli Schäfer. Village chairman Jens‑Uwe Reber noted that despite rain, many residents and guests enjoyed the program, which also included a catering tent, a bounce house and live music.
In the days following, Greiz hosted a series of cultural events: a summer festival in Greiz‑Obergrochlitz on 8 August with performances by local carnival groups, a children’s programme and a lampion parade; a piano concert by Daniel Heide at the Untere Schloss on 13 August; guided tours of the Greizer Park; and a 13‑km hike organized by local walking clubs. These activities highlight the town’s active community calendar.
