Grenada and Belize implement new sports-related economic and planning strategies

In Grenada, sporting associations have begun a workshop to shape the 2027 sports agenda. Organized by the Grenada National Sports Council, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the National Lottery Authority, the initiative focuses on establishing funding priorities, improving accountability, and creating a coordinated national sports calendar for Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique.

Kim Frederick, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, emphasized that funding requests must align with the government’s fiscal framework and national priorities. She noted that organizations receiving public funds must provide proper documentation and reports to ensure transparency and public confidence.

Meanwhile, Belize is exploring sports tourism as a strategy to combat a slowdown in overnight arrivals. Tourism Minister Anthony Mahler indicated that the government aims to improve facilities and host international events to attract visitors during slower months. Following discussions at a UN Tourism summit, Belize is seeking to establish links with international tourism bodies to develop this niche market.
