Gresik traffic accident leaves one dead after suspected brake failure

A fatal accident involving an ‘odong-odong’ vehicle and two motorcycles occurred on Jalan Raya Boboh in the Menganti district of Gresik, East Java, on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The incident, which took place around 4:30 PM near PT Katwara, was reportedly caused by a brake failure on the odong-odong vehicle.

According to Menganti Police Chief AKP Arif Rahman, the vehicle lost control and veered into the oncoming lane, striking two motorcycles. One motorcyclist, Ahmad Zaenal Arif, died at the scene. Two other victims, Suratno and Didik Eko Cahyono, sustained injuries including a lacerated leg and a broken wrist, and were transported to RS Eka Husada Menganti for medical treatment.
