Greta Scarano protests femicide at Venice Film Festival
During the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, actress and co-host Greta Scarano performed a symbolic protest on the red carpet to raise awareness regarding violence against women and femicide.
Wearing a red dress and matching lipstick, Scarano drew red marks on her face as a gesture to signal that society can no longer tolerate such violence. She stated that while she does not wish to turn the festival into a personal political platform, she felt an urgent need to speak out following the recent death of Lorena Isceri, who was killed by an ex-partner in Barberino del Mugello.
Scarano also highlighted the lack of mandatory sexual and affective education in schools as a critical issue. The protest follows pleas from Franco Isceri, the father of the deceased, who has called for political unity and action to prevent further tragedies and support families destroyed by gender-based violence.
