Gretchen's at‑home hair bleaching sparks doctor warnings

Brazilian celebrity Gretchen posted on Instagram that she regularly lightens her body hair at home, reviving interest in the trend. Aesthetic doctor Fernanda Nichelle warned that the practice can cause chemical burns, irritation and hyperpigmentation, especially when users employ incorrect concentrations of hydrogen peroxide, mix products without knowledge, or apply the mixture to skin that has been recently waxed, sun‑exposed or otherwise sensitised.

Nichelle advises a patch‑test on a small skin area before each application, proper hydration of the treated area, avoidance of hot showers and direct sun exposure immediately after bleaching, and extra caution on sensitive regions such as the face, neck, underarms and groin.
