Grevena forest receives 2 million euro investment for protection

The Greek Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, announced a 2 million euro investment for the protection and enhancement of the Theodoridis Grove in Grevena. As the country’s largest peri-urban forest, covering approximately 1,970 stremmata, the grove is undergoing significant upgrades to mitigate wildfire risks and improve local ecosystems.

Under the Antinero program for 2025, authorities have already completed cleaning and fuel removal operations across 1,660 stremmata of forest land. This technical intervention aims to reduce the risk of fire ignition and protect both human lives and property.

Additionally, a 350,000 euro programmatic agreement was signed between the General Secretary of Forests and the Mayor of Grevena. This funding is designated for the creation of recreational areas and playgrounds within the Kastraki peri-urban forest, marking the next phase in the infrastructure expansion of the grove.
