Grey's Anatomy premieres 23rd season in the US

The long-running medical drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ has premiered its 23rd season in the United States. Despite facing potential cancellation in its early stages, the series has managed to reinvent itself by introducing new cast members following the departures of several original protagonists, including Ellen Pompeo’s character, Meredith Grey.

Historical anecdotes reveal that the show’s success was not immediately apparent to network executives. Ellen Pompeo noted in a discussion with Katherine Heigl that an executive nearly failed to air the pilot episode. Additionally, actor Rob Lowe was reportedly offered a leading role before Patrick Dempsey, representing a missed opportunity to lead the series.
