GRI launches pilot sector standard for food and beverage industry

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has launched the development of a new Sector Standard specifically for the food and beverage industry. This initiative serves as a pilot for a streamlined approach intended to accelerate the delivery of industry-specific impact reporting guidance.

The new standard aims to strengthen how companies report on significant impacts within their operations and value chains, including agriculture, aquaculture, and fishing. The project focuses on critical sustainability challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, working conditions, and public health.

To support this development, GRI is seeking up to 20 global experts to participate in a multi-stakeholder Peer Review Group. The streamlined process is designed to reduce development time while maintaining established due process, helping organizations provide more consistent and material disclosure for decision-making.
