Grifols appoints Joanna Le Couilliard as independent board member

Spanish plasma products maker Grifols has added Joanna Le Couilliard to its board as an independent director. She will chair the audit committee and replace founder Íñigo Sánchez‑Asiaín, who stepped down for professional reasons.

Le Couilliard brings more than 25 years of experience in the health sector, notably leading the vaccine division at GlaxoSmithKline in the United States and overseeing GSK’s pharmaceutical business in the Asia‑Pacific region. She has also served on the boards of Recordati, PolyPeptide and other healthcare firms.

The appointment follows Grifols’ recent decision to reject a low‑ball takeover bid from Brookfield, which Sánchez‑Asiaín had previously overseen as head of a special strategy committee.
