Grifols undergoes significant leadership restructuring

Grifols, the hemoderivatives company, has undergone a major transformation in its leadership structure over the last five years, marking its most significant change in a century. The company has moved toward professionalizing its management by delegating business decisions to independent professionals outside of the founding family.

This shift follows market distrust caused by high debt levels during the pandemic and the publication of the Gotham report. While the Grifols family and associates own approximately 30% of the company, other significant shareholders with voting rights include Blackrock, Flat Flooted, and Mason Capital.

The company’s 15-member board of directors includes four direct family members, one long-time family friend, and ten independent professionals. Additionally, the eight-member management committee is largely composed of new or ad hoc appointees, with only two executives having held their positions for several years.
