Grignano maritime pines face removal amid local criticism
Regional Councilor Giulia Massolino of Patto per l’Autonomia-Civica Fvg has criticized the decision to fell maritime pine trees in the bay of Grignano. Following the Barcolana event, barriers were placed around the trees, with removal works expected to begin shortly.
Massolino argued that the removal of these mature trees, which provide shade and absorb CO2, is being done to make way for additional parking spaces. She claimed this decision contradicts European calls to restore ecosystems and increase urban greenery, accusing the Fedriga administration of prioritizing parking over environmental protection and citizen well-being. The councilor noted that a petition with 2,000 signatures and a formal complaint to the Prosecutor's Office had been filed by citizens to save the trees.
